Truth Bombs!

Taught by Lliam Amor

Pia Zadora is long-form improv in which performers tell personal tales that provide the inspiration for the rest of the show. A splendid cross between true stories and comic improv - this workshop will focus on an eclectic mix of skills - mini monologues, long form transitions, character and narrative. If you're worried about "revealing something of yourself" to the audience then this workshop will scare you - in a great, carthartic way.

When: Saturday 1st October, 12-4pm

Where: Stores Rehearsal Room, Brisbane Powerhouse

Cost: $35

In a New York Minute

Taught by Glenn Hall

Working from the premise that improvisation is all about change and being changed, ‘In A New York Minute’ discovers worlds populated with real characters and explores situations in which those characters are changed forever, all set to a live, impromptu soundtrack performed by ‘cellist and Musical Director, Tristen Parr.In this practical workshop you will be taken through a theatrical exploration of the techniques, structure and devices behind this non-genre specific, unscripted two-act play. The intention of the play is to create a non-linear narrative, which allows the audience to tell the story.

Using three location set-ups, which in turn generate characters and relationships, several storylines evolve and main characters are identified. These storylines are combined and edited to create one narrative or throughline. You will also get to work with IANYM’s Musical Director and ‘cellist extraordinaire, Tristen Parr, exploring how the soundtrack of the show is more than just a top and tail for scenes, but a character who influences the how the narrative begins, unfolds and resolves.

Musicians are also welcome to participate in a workshop with Tristen for the first hour, which addresses his philosophies and techniques; with regards to improvising musically in general, and the specific requirements of IANYM.You will be joined by WA Theatresports representatives Shane Adamczak, George Gayler and Michael Burke, who have all performed in the Perth seasons of IANYM and will share their expertise as well as perform in the show as part of the Off the Cuff festival.
